"Pop punk quintet Big Smile have announced the upcoming release of their new single 'Killdozer,' out on all digital platforms July 31st. Their first release of 2020, 'Killdozer' is an ambitious vocal performance with biting lyrics concerning the pharmaceutical industry, delving into the complexities of addiction. Intertwined with dynamic instrumentation, the track takes listeners on a stirring ride, ranging from bouncy and energetic to driving and emotional. "

How did Big Smile come to be? Scooter and I (Ethan) were the first two members to start writing together, as an acoustic duo named “Big Smile.” Noah and Cameron had met Scooter through other bands they had played in together, and we all had a very similar sound we wanted to create. The 4 of us then ended up finding John on a Craigslist ad that Scooter had posted, and the 5 of us have been writing music together for 3 years now since! What was the songwriting process like for "Killdozer"? The writing process for this was pretty straight forward. After we figured out the structure of how we wanted to song to sound, the focus turned to lyrics and melodies. The vocals didn't fully come together until we actually recorded the song but we are insanely happy with the way it turned out. Was the process of songwriting and recording affected by the pandemic? What was different about making music in 2020 than it was pre-COVID? The pandemic has definitely halted our progress as a band. We had our studio time delayed, and the recording process was done with many extra precautions in mind. The pandemic had also halted us from playing shows and possibly touring again, since most venues are not hosting shows as of now. Overall, the pandemic has made life as a band a little more difficult, but we are excited to resume playing shows as soon as we can. "Killdozer" focuses on the pharmaceutical industry and on the complexities of addiction. What inspired Big Smile to write a song about these issues in particular? We wanted to write about something extremely relevant to present-day issues. We personally have close friends who have struggled with addiction and it’s painful to see. Scooter is very good at illustrating the issue by singing about personal experiences and relating to the listener. What makes Killdozer unique compared to the rest of Big Smile’s discography? The lyrics really set this song apart from the usual Big Smile sound. A lot of our songs are about nostalgia, or about going through changes, or even watching others change. This song really tackles some issues and has a point to be made. I saw on Facebook that you guys had some exciting news to share alongside Killdozer. Could you give us some insight into what that exciting news is? We've signed to Anchor Eighty Four Records! A few days after we announced the single we signed with them and they wanted to put the song out, which is the reason we had to delay the release a bit. We're excited about the partnership and ready to release our next handful of songs through them. Do you have anything else you would like to add? We hope everyone is excited for the new release and enjoys it. We've got a really cool music video coming soon after the release of the song so stay tuned!
