Scar: The 3rd Single and Anticipation for Superbloom

Author: Chloe Olivia

When Scar was announced, it was met with excitement and anticipation. Fans were also quick to assure each other that not being able to listen to it was okay and that protecting yourself was more important than streaming; just as they did for skinny skinny. There is no doubt Ashton influenced so many people to be more caring and kind to each other and that's showing with every release so far. His kind words and motivating speeches have indefinitely made so many of his supporters better people. Truly no one is doing it like him. Seeing Ashton get the love and praise he deserves has been the best part of every single release. I can't wait to see how much love there will be for him when we hear the entirety of the album.

It has been said many times Ashton knows exactly when his words are needed and i think that truth is evident in this release. A few weeks ago Ashton announced his solo album, Superbloom and since then has given us three singles, scar being the latest one. As many fans struggle through quarantine and adjusting back into school; this album couldn't have come at a better time. His honest approach to speaking of his own battles that acknowledges pain as much as it does the importance of working through it with everything you got. Scar is a song about looking at the endless pain you're experiencing and finding the motivation to push through. At a time where everything feels hopeless and life is in a never ending purgatory, Scar is what so much of us needed.

As for the song itself I expected to sob to slow ballad but instead felt warmed by comfort and felt motivated to push through my current battles. To me the lyrics felt like that break in a long period of numbness when just for a day you're able to look at your current situation differently. The one day things feel less shitty, the one day the sun finally comes out. Scar felt like finally being able to begin to heal. The lyrics speak of his family and this motivation is to be there for them, the best part about this song is that its not written for me or any demographic the song isnt saying “dont kill yourself you have family” kits not that over used guilt trip rhetoric. Hes saying he wants to be alive to see and foster the growth of those around him, that he’s working through everything alongside his family, that he wants to be present in the coming years as he can because his life is just as important as theres. That being around people who inspire you as much as you inspire them is what makes live so good and worth it. For so many struggling to find purpose through these times this song is that comfort, comfort and promise coming from someone that many people grew up looking up too.

When I say no one can do it like Ashton, i mean it no one could make so many people feel so genuinely seen and comforted, he knows us as well as we know him. I'm incredibly grateful to find him and his words. I can not begin to illustrate how important this album will be to so many of us, thank you so much Ashton.
