Floodwater Angel is a 4 piece glam band from St Paul, Minnesota. From their first released single, Asparagus, in 2019, they have done nothing but evolve musically, and seem to keep on expanding into broader horizons. This band is now releasing their first full length album, Oddities, Odysseys on May 22nd, and fans have everything to look forward to. A new take on amazing songs, roped in with spoken word poetry pieces, and even littered with otherworldly acoustic guitar. This 20 track record will surely be the band’s most adventurous and, quite frankly, binge worthy venture yet. “Consider the tracks to be guided meditation,” says the band, “- don’t be afraid to follow the river to where it leads your mind.”

The track, “When the Beatniks Were Social Lions” was released earlier this year, being the first introduction served as to what we could expect in the upcoming record. While it set the stage amazingly well, there was no way we could have been prepared for what we were served. While songs such as this, are hard hitting singles, we are also bombarded with lyrics that are just as impactful throughout the entirety of the work. The further you dig, the more you will find, not only lyrically, but also musically. Slam segments in songs such as ((((((((()))))))))portray an almost indescribable feeling to the listener while you are sucked back in with a soft, dreamlike acoustic piece like We Outta Leave This World Behind and Quarry. There truly is no wonder as to why they give the recommendation to “... try the album stoned, slouched and sober,” as you are bound to learn and discover new aspects to every song whenever, or however you listen.

Talk about the best acid trip of your life.

While 20 songs initially seems like an off putting experience, Floodwater weaves each as if part of some strange, yet oddly familiar story. Each song channeling another emotion for both the listener, and, as easily heard, the vocalist. While many would drop a long, tediously written book out of boredom, this is one I had a lot of trouble merely thinking of putting down, scared if I would lose my mindset it flawlessly puts you into.
