What inspired you to write “Remedy”?

An on again, off again relationship was the main inspiration behind the track.

What is your creative process like?

As for a creative process, I type out random notes in my phone of what I’m feeling during certain moments. I go back to those notes and I piece them together to create the storyline. I’ll sit there and listen to the instrumental over and over again and play with random melodies until I find a certain one I like. For this specific song I worked with my brother Anthony Fritz. We pieced the vocals and melodies for the song together. As for the instrumental I worked closely with Chris Piquette who created an instrumental based solely on my vision. I’ll sometimes just send him vocal melodies and he builds around that to give me an awesome instrumental.

You’ve toured before with past and current projects, what have been some of

your favorite shows to play? Where do you hope you can play either as a solo

artist or with your current project?

Any show I get to play is incredible because I love meeting new people and I just love being on the road in general. I feel like so far my favorite has been playing Warped Tour in CA with Keyed Up. Anyone who knows me is well aware of how badly I’ve wanted that opportunity since I started attending the festival in 2009. Also being it was the last run of Warped makes me feel grateful I got to be apart of it.

How does your solo music, specifically “Remedy”, differ from your previous

projects? From Keyed Up?

Keyed Up is more of a vibe. The music that I create alongside Whitney Peyton for Keyed Up has melodic parts and is more Hip/Hop based. My vocal melodies are carried by her effortless raps and rhyming patterns and vice versa. With my solo songs they’re more Pop/punk based. As some fans know I was in a pop punk band to start and I’m grateful so many of those fans carried over. I always say that alt/rock is where my roots are and I definitely feel comfortable in that genre. I honestly love that the two projects are different from each other and fans get to hear me in two different styles.

What is your favorite plant?

Cactus. Whenever I see one it reminds me of my friends out west in Phoenix, AZ, which I feel like is my second home at this point.

Who are your major influences?

Paramore, Tonight Alive, and Halsey.

What has been your biggest obstacle to overcome as an artist?

I had to overcome my own mind and to stop overthinking all the time. I always had this fear that people will pick apart either my music, my appearance, my voice and the thing I’ve realized is people will do that anyway. I’m putting myself out there so people will always give their opinion regardless. So instead of overthinking I have to over create. The more content the better and I had to stop second guessing myself.

What inspired you to start creating solo music?

I missed the pop punk genre. I wanted to create loud music again so I figured instead of forming a band I’m just gonna do it on my own and see what happens. I’m not expecting anything from it, I just love the pop punk genre and I didnt feel like closing that chapter of my life just yet.

You’ve worked with Whitney Peyton a lot, both on solo music and through Keyed

Up. What is your favorite thing about working with her?

There’s so many things I love about working with Whitney. The main thing is that she’s so genuine. I always say it’s so rare in the industry to find anyone who wants to see and help someone else succeed without something else in return. With Whitney she found me at a time where I not only didn’t want to hang up music just yet but I also needed a friend. I consider her one of my best friends and seeing her drive and determination that only inspires me to work even harder at my craft. Whitney is always thinking of the next step and I admire her for that.

What are you most excited for as a solo artist?

I think I just want to see where it can go. I’m an optimistic person so I just want to create music that hopefully will help others and they’ll be able to relate to and find solace in the lyrics. I’m so used to being a part of bands that this is my personal way of showing myself I can do it on my own without being dependent on others.

What can fans expect from you in the future?

They can expect more original music, some cover songs, new Keyed Up songs, limited time merch, collabs with different musicians and hopefully some shows thrown in there as well. There’s a lot to look forward to in this new year, that’s for sure.
